Use of the D-dimer Assay for Diagnosing Thromboembolic Disease in the Dog

چکیده
An 8-year-old, medium-sized, mixed-breed dog is presented to the veterinary clinician with the complaints of excessive panting and exercise intolerance. The dog’s temperature is 101.5 ̊F, and heart rate is 150 beats per minute. Physical examination discloses occasional, soft crackles at the end of the inspiration/early expiration over the right hemithorax, but it is otherwise unremarkable. Thoracic radiographs are normal. The dog is sent home with exercise restriction while awaiting results of a routine laboratory biochemical panel. Two days later, the dog returns with overt respiratory distress and tachypnea. How should this animal be evaluated?

The Effect of Preanalytical, Analytical, and Postanalytical Variables on D-dimer Measurement
D-dimer is a soluble fibrin degradation product deriving from the plasmin-mediated degradation of cross-linked fibrin. D-dimer can hence be considered a biomarker of activation of coagulation and fibrinolysis, and it is routinely used for ruling out venous thromboembolism (VTE). D-dimer is increasingly used to assess the risk of VTE recurrence and to help define the uoptimal duration of anticoa...
متن کاملEvaluation of Correlation between D-dimer Levels with Disease Severity in Patients with Covid-19 Referred to Hamedan Besat Hospital in 2021-2022
Introduction: The Covid-19 virus affects the hemostasis system in infected people by causing thrombosis and it increases the level of D_dimer. This study was designed and conducted for the evaluation of correlation between D-dimer levels with disease severity in patients with Covid-19 referred to Hamedan Besat hospital. Methods and Materials: 366 patients with Covid-19 referred to Besat Hospit...
متن کاملThe value of D-Dimer as a biomarker in assessing disease severity and mortality in patients with Covid-19, a review study
The Covid-19 pandemic created by the 2019 Coronavirus-nCov has become one of the biggest health problems of the current century. Because this disease is new in human society and has no previous history, so our information about it is incomplete, and researchers are trying to study with extensive clinical studies and changes in the human body caused by the function of this virus. It is clear tha...
متن کاملUtility of D-Dimer in the Diagnosis of Patients with Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension
BACKGROUND Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is an important cause of severe pulmonary hypertension (PH). D-dimer, a degradation product of fibrin, has been used as a marker for various diseases. In patients with idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension there is evidence to suggest that D-dimer levels are associated with disease severity; however, data regarding D-dimer in...
متن کاملMultiple splenic infarctions in a dog with immune-mediated hemolytic anemia: therapeutic implications
Background: Splenic infarction (SI) is a rare clinical entity seldom encountered in veterinary medicine. Its most frequent causes include thromboembolic status, splenomegaly, and cardiac disease. Although thrombotic elements from the circulation provide the most common context for thromboembolic SIs, immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) has not been reported as an underlying...
